Inc. Magazine has named St. Louis-based Argent Capital Management LLC one of America’s fastest growing companies. Argent, a private money management firm, earned the distinction after reporting general revenue growth of more than 60 percent between 2005 and 2008. This landed Argent on Inc. Magazine’s annual Inc. 5000 list, ranking the 5000 fastest growing companies in the country.
Founded in 1998 by Steve Finerty, CFP®, JD, and John Meara, CFA, Argent focuses on large and small capitalization stocks. “We strive to produce consistent outcomes for our clients by following a disciplined investment process and building the best team in the business,” said Meara, president of the firm.
Argent manages roughly $700 million in assets for pension plans, endowments, foundations and wealthy families.
Methodology of the Inc. 5000 List
The Inc. 500|5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by the first week of 2005, and therefore able to show four full calendar years of sales. Additionally, they have to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent — not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies — as of December 31, 2008 (a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired since that date). Revenue in 2005 must have been at least $200,000, and revenue in 2008 must have been at least $2 million.
